Finnish Institute of Occupational Health

The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) is a specialist in well-being at work, which carries out research, and provides services and training, and have around 500 employees. FIOH aims to improve Finnish work life on the level of individual workers, workplaces, organizations, and society at large. Our clients include workplaces, decision-makers, individuals, occupational health service units and other parties engaged in ensuring well-being at work. Together with our clients, we develop wellfunctioning
work communities and support workers’ work ability. Our offices in Helsinki, Kuopio, Oulu, Tampere and Turku enable us to focus on the areas of expertise and needs of workplaces in different regions.

FIOH has a strong experience of developing and teaching health and safety items e.g. in the health care sector; both in work places and health care academies. The connection between work life and academies is important in order to develop the education to fit into the needs of changing working life, and to ensure teacher’s knowledge. The key person in FIOH (Erja Sormunen) is a contact person in ergonomics patient handling item and is responsible for the Ergonomics Patient Handling Card® education. She is  nvolved in research and development projects in the area of health care sector.
